Bis(diethylamino)methyloctylsilane as a monomer was prepared by the substitution reaction of dichloromethyloctylsilane with diethylamine in hexane. We have synthesized new polysiloxane materials containing fluorescent diol groups along the main chain via the melt copolymerization of bis(diethylamino)methyloctylsilane with diol derivatives such as bisphenol A, 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphenol, 4,4'-biphenol, 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene and hydroquinone etc. The obtained polysiloxanes are soluble in usual organic solvents such as THF and CHCl3. The prepared materials were fully characterized by NMR, MS, GPC and IR spectroscopies along with TGA. The electronic properties of the fluorescent polysiloxanes were studied by UV-vis absorption, excitation and fluorescence emission spectroscopic methods, in particular.
