On Crystallization of Korean Bentonite Treated with Aqueous Sodium Hydroxide Solution

우리나라 영일산 Bentonite를 0.5-6N NaOH로 70-90℃에서 Na2O:SiO2의 비율을 1:1∼4:1로 2-30일의 범위에서 처리하여 그 결정성의 변화를 X-선 회절법으로 조사하였다. 그 결과 2N NaOH로 70℃에서 Zeolite는 Hydroxysodalite로 변한다. 이 결정 외에도 처리조건에 따라서는 faujasite, sodium A zeolite, mordemite등의 결정도 소량 생겼다.

Korean bentonite was treated with aqueous NaOH solution under the reaction conditions such as concentration of NaOH, 0.5-6 N; ratio of Na2O to SiO2, 1-4; reaction time, 2-30 days; reaction temperature, 70℃-90℃. The products were examined by X-ray diffraction patterns. When it was treated with 2 N NaOH at 70℃, zeolite species P1 was formed with good yield. In higher concentration and at higher temperature than above, zeolite species P1 was converted to hydroxysodalite. Together with these crystals, some faujasite type zeolite, sodium A zeolite, mordenite type zeolite etc. was formed depending upon reaction conditions.
