A Polarographic Study of Nickel-Monoethanolamine Complex

Ni(Ⅱ)-Monoethanolamine(MEA)착염의 수은전극표면에 있어서의 환원반응의 반응기구를 폴라로그라프법을 써서 해명하였다. 이 착염의 전극환원의 가역정도를 직류 및 교류 폴라로그람으로 검사하였더니 pH가 9.0보다 낮은 범위에서는 착염의 반응전류로 추측되는 비가역성파를 나타니고 pH 9.5∼11.0 사이에서는 Cd(Ⅱ)파에 상당하는 비교적 가역적인 well defined wave를 얻었다. MEA의 농도와 pH를 변함으로서 얻은 검사한 결과 환원파는 이를 ligands와 빠른 평형에 있는 Ni착염에 기인하고 이 차염의 화학식은 Ni(MEA)3OH이고 총안정도상수는 약 1020임을 밝혀내었다.

Polarographic studies of Ni(Ⅱ) ion complexed with monoethanolamine, MEA, in aqueous solution have been carried out using sodium perchlorate as a supporting electrolyte. With use of D. C. and A. C. polarograms polarographic behaviors of the complex have been discussed. The wave obtained from basic solutions are found to be well defined and reversible, while reduction of the complex at pH smaller than 8.8 seems to be kinetic controlled with different complex species. Reducing species of the complex on the mercury electrode is determined to be Ni(MEA)3OH instead of Ni(MEA)2(OH)2 which is reported by other workers. Overall stability constant of Ni(MEA)3OH is obtained to be 1020.
