10종의 N, N-dimethylaniline에 대하여 electronic spectra 와 소광상수를 결정하였다. DMA의 250mμ(C) band 가 소광의 주원인이 되고 있음을 밝혔고 이 band 가 n→π*band임을 치환기 효과와 용매 효과를 통하여 밝힐 수 있었다. 이 band에 의하여 흡수된 energy는 삼중항 상태로 전이되고 결국은 가장 적은 energy의 삼중항 상태, 3La로 떨어져 여기서 떨어져 여기서 무복사 충돌에 의하여 energy를 상실케된다.

Electronic spectra and quenching constants for ten N, N-dimethylanilines (DMA) have been determined. The 250mμ absorption band (C band) of DMA was shown to be mainly responsible for the quenching. This band was confirmed as an n→π* band through substituent and medium effects on the spectra shifts. The energy absorbed by this band then transfers to triplet and down to the lowest triplet state, 3La, where the energy is lost by non-radiative collisions.
