옥시폴리메틸렌옥시 유연격자를 갖는 새로운 H-자형 쌍동이 분자의 동족계열 액정화합물(PPPA-n)을 p-페닐페놀과 α,ω-bis(2,5-dicarboxyphenoxy)alkanes 산염화물의 에스터화반응에 의하여 합성하였다. 유연격자의 길이는 옥시에틸렌옥시(n=2)에서 옥시데카메틸렌옥시(n=10)로 바꾸었다. 이들의 열역학적 값은 시차주사열분석기에 의하여 측정되어졌고,액정성은 가열판이 부착된 편광현미경에 의하여 조사되어졌다.

A homologous series of new H-shaped twin liquid crystal molecules (PPPA-n) with flexible spacers, oxypolymethyleneoxy, has been prepared by esterification of acid chloride of α,ω-bis(2,5-dicar-boxyphenoxy) alkanes with p-phenylphenol. The length of spacer was varied from oxyethyleneoxy (n=2) to oxydecamethyleneoxy (n=10). Their thermodynamic data were measured by differential scanning calorimetry and liquid crystalline properties were investigated by a hot-stage polarizing microscope.
