Abstract	The cobalt catalyzed carbonylation of bromobenzene having protected aldehyde group gives the corresponding ester in good yields, but 2-bromobenzaldehyde gives 3-alkoxyphthalide in the noticeable yield instead of alkyl 2-formylbenzoates.
