Abstract	A novel, efficient and eco-friendly method is described for the synthesis of alkyl thiocyanates from alkyl halides. The reaction was carried out by treatment of various alkyl halides with ammonium thiocyanate in polyethylene glycol as reaction media. This procedure afforded the corresponding alkyl thiocyanates in high yields without formation of isothiocyanates as by-products.
